Virginia L.
Neff
Sep 29, 1952 — Mar 9, 2024
Maryville
Saturday, March 9, 2024, Virginia Lee Neff, 71, of Maryville, Missouri ran into the waiting arms
of Dickie in Heaven with Abrielle wrapping around her leg.
Virginia was welcomed into the world on September 29, 1952 in Cainbridge, Nebraska by Darrel
L. and Helen L. (Cogdill) Skroh. She was a graduate of South Harrison High School and received
her bachelor's degree and master's degree in special education from Northwest Missouri State
University.
On December 26, 1970 in Maryville, Missouri, Virginia married the love of her life Samuel
Richard "Dickie" Neff. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1996. She was also preceded
by her parents and granddaughter, Abrielle Neff.
Teaching was her passion. Her teaching career started off in elementary Special Education. She
then shifted to helping incarcerated adults receive their GED, before returning to Special
Education, retiring from Maryville School District. She made sure every student knew she saw
something special in them, a butterfly ready to spread their wings. The words "Mrs. Neff is the
best," and "she never gave up on me" could be heard time and time again.
Her patience could be seen in the stitches of her embroidery, sewing, and hand quilting while
her feisty spirit came out in a game of cards or dominoes. Her level of kindness embodied the
quote, "you never know what someone is going through." A good book was never far from her
hands, including the Bible as she attended Laura Street Baptist Church and was a member of
the Missouri Retired Teacher Association.
More than anything, she loved being a Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She is
survived by her children, Tammy (Jimmie) Martin, Marcus (Brenda) Neff and Kevin (Amanda)
Neff; seven grandchildren, Emily Martin, Samantha Curtis, Madyson Neff, Kendra Curtis, Nathan
Mains, Helen "Elly" Neff and Clinton Mains; four great-grandchildren, Lauryn Andrews, Sophia
Bonner, Harmony Curtis and Corbin Bonner; brother, Delbert (Barb) Skroh and sister, Mary
Foster. We love her to the moon and back.
Funeral Service 10am Wednesday, March 13th at Price Funeral Home. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery,
Clearmomt, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, March
12th at the funeral Home. The family suggests memorials to the Abrielle Neff Foundation for a
Special Education or Early Childhood scholarship.
