Shirley Colwell
1936-2016

Shirley Rose (Tunell) Colwell 80, Maryville, MO, passed away peacefully at Nodaway Nursing Home Thursday, October 20,2016. She was a devoted, daughter, wife, mother and a friend to many. Shirley was born on April 27, 1936 to John and Rozetta Thompson Tunell in Maitland Missouri and was a 1954 graduate of Maryville High School.

Shirley asked Jesus into her heart at a young age. She attended church faithfully and was a member of Laura Street Baptist Church. Before attending Laura Street, Loran and Shirley attended the First Assembly of God Church in Maryville, where she played the piano and organ. Shirley read God's word and prayed for her family daily.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her infant brother John David.

On September 7, 1955, Shirley married the love of her life Loran Colwell who preceded her in death July 28, 2011. They had been married 56 years. Shirley has two children, Terry (Joan) of St. James Missouri who brought her three grandchildren, Jonathon (Jesse) of Fordland Missouri, Christie of Springfield Missouri and Laura Jenkins (Chris) of Polk Missouri. Her other son Scott (Kelly) of Maryville brought her five more grandchildren. Jason (Katie) of Maryville, Mike (Megan) of North Kansas City, John (Samantha) of Edgerton Missouri, Austin of Maryville and Nathan, also of Maryville. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren. She loved her boys and grandchildren very much.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM Monday, October 24th at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, with services to be Tuesday, October 25th at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Nodaway Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Maryville.

The family suggests donating to Alzheimer research in lieu of flowers.
