Mary Cochell
1930-2017
Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Cochell was born on May 1, 1930, in Shelby, North Carolina. She passed on February 7, 2017, at the age of 86 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
She was the only child of Margaret Effie (Elliott) and Broadus Sylvanus Greene. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Donald Cochell, and two sons, Jim and Kenny.
She is survived by one son, Bill (Jeannie) of Phoenix, Arizona, a daughter-in-law, Sandra Cochell of Charlotte, North Carolina, and six grandchildren, Billie, Ellery, Eddie, Abbie, Kenneth, and Lily Mae Cochell.
When she was a little girl, her dad took her to baseball games and she became an avid sports fan. She was a fan of the Royals, and never missed a televised game of the Chiefs, Missouri Tigers, or Jayhawks basketball.
Mary Elizabeth graduated Shelby High School in 1947. She was a member of the Honor Society, Student Council, Journalism Club, Future Homemakers of America, and Spanish Club. She also was a Marshal and the Editor of Outlook.
Shortly after earning a Bachelor degree from Furman University, she met Donald Cochell on a blind date. They were married on November 23, 1951, and relocated to Albany, Missouri where they raised three sons and managed/owned two funeral homes.
In the early 1980s, they relocated to the Kansas City area, where Mrs. Cochell worked in the accounting department for Albright Chevrolet until she was almost 70.
She was an active member of P.E.O., loved playing bridge and pinochle. She was a member of the Albany and later, Raymore Christian Church.
A visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 PM Saturday, February 11, 2017, at the Albany, Missouri Christian Church. It will be followed by the Funeral Service at 1:00 PM.
Burial is at the Grandview Cemetery, Albany.
