Mary V. Walter, 96, of St. Joseph, Missouri formerly of Conception Junction, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the Living Community of St. Joseph.
Born January 7, 1921 in Clyde, Missouri to John and Veronica (Klaas) Derks. She graduated in 1939 from St. Benedict's High School in Clyde.
Mary attended St. Joseph's Cathedral, is a former parishioner of St. Columba Parish, and an Oblate of Conception Abbey. She was a homemaker, enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting and playing with her great-grandchildren.
She married William Palm in 1943, killed in action in 1944. In 1952, she married Ben Walter. Preceded in death by Ben (1989), her parents, sisters - Leona McQueen, Maragruette Derks, Marcella Frans, brothers - Raymond, Joseph, Vincent, John Derks, and son-in-law, George Riley.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Riley, St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Father Kenneth Riley, Lisa (Kim) Mehring, Denise Riley and Tom (Krista) Riley; two great-grandchildren, McKena and Alex; brother, Donald Derks (Marilyn), Hobson, MT; sister, Esther Schmidt, Atlanta, GA, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 9:30am to 10:30am Thursday, October 5, 2017 at St. Columba Catholic Church, Conception Jct, MO. Rosary 10:30am, Thursday followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Burial St. Columba Cemetery, Conception, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Conception Abbey or Benedictine Sisters of Clyde, Missouri.
