Mary Huff Coffelt age 98, passed away on April 21, 2024 in Maryville. Her parents were Floyd M. and Violet Jenson Huff.
On March 9, 1946 she was united in marriage to Wesley D. Coffelt of Ravenwood, MO at the Methodist Church in Holton, KS. After a trip to Colorado they moved to a farm west of Parnell, MO, owned by Judge J. Dorr Ewing of Maryville. There they farmed with horses and no modern conveniences.
In the fall of 1949 they purchased their first farm east of Maryville in the Bedison Community. With the exception of three years when the family lived in the Los Angeles, CA area, Mary lived on this farm. A homemaker and farm wife, she was honored in 1991 as Nodaway County Farm Wife of the Year. Mary was a former member of the Mutual Improvement Circle, the Penelope Club and the Maryville Garden Club. She was a life-long Methodist and a member of the Maryville First United Methodist Church.
Others preceding her in death were her husband, Wesley (December 28, 1992), an infant daughter, Tammy Sue, daughter Linda Dougan, son-in-law, Gary Staten, her parents, grandparents, three sisters, an infant, Wilma, Eileen, and Eva Goforth, her in-laws, Eldon and Minnie Coffelt of Ravenwood, several brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and others in the Coffelt family, her brother-in-law, Bryl Goforth, Savannah, MO, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Mary is survived by three daughters, Vickie (John) Brown, Colorado Springs, CO, Cynthia Staten, Ravenwood, MO, Virginia (Bill) Bateman of Overland Park, KS. and son-in-law Keith Dougan, Maryville, MO. Her grandchildren, Jonathan Brown (Jenn), Baltimore, MD, Robin Brown (Ernie) McFarlane, Colorado Springs, CO, Mark (Lori) Staten, Tarkio, MO, Jeremy (Marcee) Dougan, Maryville, MO, Keitha Dougan (Michael) Clapp, Hopkins, MO, Mende Staten (Tim) Kemper, Hawk Point, MO, and Blair (Danikka) Bateman, Lenexa, KS. Great grandchildren include Keira (Jordan) McCrary, Kylee (Trevor) Townsend, Gentri, Bryli (Fritz Lager) and Quin Staten, Ava and Addison Kemper, Sadee and Sophee Clapp, and Luke Kennedy Eker and Wesley Bateman. She is also survived by one niece, Nancy Goforth (Michael) Kelly, Blue Springs, MO, one nephew Alan (Sherri) Goforth, Lee's Summit MO, two great nephews, Jonathan Goforth and Brandon Kelly (Courtney), two great nieces, Kristin Kelly(Jacob) Jester, Litchfield Park, AZ and Brittany Goforth (Jesse) Johnson.
Visitation on Friday, May 17 from 6pm to 8pm at Price Funeral Home. Graveside services at 11:00am on Saturday, May 18 at the Wilcox Cemetery, Wilcox, MO.
Memorials may be made to the Wilcox Cemetery Association or the Maryville First United Methodist Church in Mary's name.
