Mark Benedict Lager, 57, of Maryville, passed away at his home on Tuesday, October 17, 2017.
Mark was born May 15, 1960 in Maryville, Mo., the son of Herman and Lorine (Bliley) Lager.
Mark lived a full and extraordinary life. Mark had the ability to love unconditionally, forgive always, discover wonder in the ordinary, believe in the best in people and be an example of how we should approach life. He was an inspiration to everyone who had the good fortune to meet him; once Mark met you he did not forget you. He brought a special joy to everyone he met.
Mark was a member of St. Gregory's Church. Mark graduated from State School #26. He then worked at NOCOMO for numerous years. He was active in the Nodaway County Special Olympics, a favorite sport was bowling. Mark lived for 25 years in the Edwards Group Home where he enjoyed many special activities and met many special people. He was blessed to spend his final days at the Group Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Lorine Lager; brother, Greg Lager; sister, Mary Gast; sisters-in-law Pat Lager and Jane Lager and nephew, Matthew Carroll.
He is survived by sisters - Carrie (Bernard) Eiberger, King City; Agnes (Dennis) Drain, Florida; Catherine (Kurby) Law, Maryville; Teresa (John) Nielson, Maryville; Rita (David) Carroll, Maitland and brothers - Joe (Susan) Lager, Belton; John Lager, Maryville; Cletus Lager, Conception Jct.; Gene (Patrice) Lager, Maryville; Bob (Terri) Lager, Maryville, and brother-in-law Robert Gast, Olathe, KS. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends also survive.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00a.m. Saturday, October 21 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Maryville. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Maryville. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. The Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.
The family suggests contributions to Nodaway County Special Olympics and SSM Hospice.
