Obituary

Lucile Cockayne Bithos, 94
September 17, 1929 -  March 29, 2024

Lucile was the eldest child of Bula (Holt) and Ivan Cockayne.   She graduated from Horace Mann High School in 1946.  The next year she taught school at Common Sense.  The following year she went to NWMSU full time, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1950.

On August 21, 1949 Lucile married Franklin Bithos in Maryville.  In 1951 Franklin was called to return to service in the US Army.  Lucile and their daughter Lucinda joined Franklin in Okinawa, Japan, in 1952.  Over the years the growing family traveled through many countries as they moved between military bases.  Lucile was proud to tell people she had traveled around the world  ... twice!

Lucile was preceded in death by her parents, husband Franklin (1976), son Sam (1964),  daughter Lucinda (1969), brother Clifford Cockayne (2013) and sister Marjorie Dearmont (2023).  She is survived by son John (Nancy) of Alaska, son Charles (Jenny) of Kansas, granddaughter Amanda (Matt) Gross and children of Florida, grandson Franklin (Heidi) and children of Alaska.

All who have known Lucile will continue to smile with memories of her common sense,  her wisdom and advice on how to fix just about anything using the tools and materials you already have at home.

Visitation will be at Price Funeral Home on April 6, 2024 at 1pm. Funeral service will follow at 2pm.  Internment at Miriam Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Nodaway County Historical Society, PO Box 324, Maryville, or to any charity of your choice.
