Lorna Jean Landers Nelson, 92, Guilford, MO. died October 31, 2016 at LaVerna Village Nursing Home, Savannah, MO.
She was born February 17, 1924, in St. Joseph, MO to William E. and Beulah A. Daniels Landers.
Lorna attended Weis Elementary School and Benton High School, St. Joseph.
At eight years of age, she joined the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in St. Joseph. She lived a life of faith and humility, always striving to serve her Lord.
During World War II she worked at North American Aviation in Kansas City, KS as an aircraft mechanic. Following the war Lorna returned to St. Joseph where she worked at Douglas Candy Company.
On January 27, 1946 she was united in marriage in St. Joseph with Kenneth F. Nelson of Guilford who preceded Lorna in death September 24, 2012. Their entire married life was spent on their farm southeast of Guilford, where they raised their four children.
She is survived by her children: Carl "Chris" (Kim) Nelson, Heyworth, IL; Gilbert (Dr. Polly) Nelson, Guilford; Bonnie Nelson, Maryville, MO; and Betty Peck, Guilford; and grandchildren Joshua (Lee Hanten) Nelson. Hannah (Andrew) Mortonson, Tabitha Nelson, Caden Peck and Alex Peck.
Other survivors include sisters-in-law Theresa Landers, Jeanne Landers, and Winifred Negaard, brother-in-law Norman Nelson, special niece Jennifer Stabno, and many nieces and nephews.
Lorna was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather John C. Palmer; sister May Belle Landers; brothers William Landers, Robin H. Landers, Kenneth A. Landers, and David A. Landers, and several sisters- and-brothers-in-law.
A Memorial Service will be held, November 12, at the Community of Christ Church, Guilford, at 11AM. Visitation will be at 10 AM prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Graves Cemetery, Guilford.
