Lloyd Nelson, 86, of Skidmore, Missouri passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.
Lloyd was born on September 12, 1939, in Skidmore, Missouri to the late Harry and Mertie (Hutchison) Nelson. He was a graduate of Mound City High School and furthered his education at Northwest Missouri State University and received his master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado. He taught at Washington Middle School for 30 years in Maryville, where he taught math, science and industrial arts until retiring in 1993. He later worked for Nodaway County Soil and Water Conservation District as the equipment manager, retiring in 2022.
Lloyd received the Missouri State Industrial Arts Teacher of the year. His family was also honored as Nodaway County Farm Family of the year. He was a member of the Skidmore Christian Church, where he had served as a deacon, Masonic Lodge #470, Order of the Eastern Star #262, volunteer fireman, retired teachers association, and Nodaway County Association of retired school employees. He delivered Meals on Wheels for Tri-City and was a member of the Skidmore Town and Country Saddle Club and the Gill Club. He enjoyed mowing and helping neighbors with their lawns. He had a heart of a true servant.
He participated in tractor cruises, enjoyed talking tractors and driving equipment, and going to parades, car and tractor shows. He worked part time for MODOT as an emergency snow plow driver and hauled grain.
Lloyd spent many dedicated years attending school activities and caring for his wife, Betty. They were united in marriage on June 9, 1963. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2024.
Lloyd is survived by his children, Kyle (Karla) Nelson, Kayla (Robert) Holscher, Kelly (Teak) Nelson, and Karlene (Dustin) Jenkins; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his brother, Herschel Nelson along with numerous cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am Wednesday, July 8th at the Skidmore Christian Church under the care of Price Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service at Nodaway Memorial Gardens in Maryville. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Tuesday, July 7th at Price Funeral Home. In memory of Lloyd, his family suggests memorials to the Skidmore Christian Church or the Tri-city Friendship Center at Maitland, Missouri.
