Obituary

Larry Dougan of Maryville, MO passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 21, 2026.

Larry was born on March 9, 1948 to CD "Speck" Dougan and Maye (Davis) Dougan. He attended school in Graham, MO where he was active in sports and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated in 1966. After graduation he briefly attended Northwest Missouri State University and then enlisted in the Air Force where he was stationed in Clovis, NM. Larry returned to Graham after his military service where he married and had two daughters.  He opened Dougan's Meat Processing in 1976 where he specialized in butchering, cutting, and smoking meats for over 21 years. During this time he also served on the Nodaway-Holt school board, was a volunteer firefighter for Graham, was a co-owner of B&D auctions, was a member of the Lions club and Eagles, and also was elected as a Nodaway County Commissioner for multiple terms.  After leaving the Commissioner's office he became the Road & Bridge Supervisor for the County where he worked for the final 11 years of his career.  He retired in 2016 after serving the county for 25 years. Larry never knew how to not work and so he continued to be active with the MATTCO organization through 2024.

Anyone who knew Larry was aware that he had the "gift of gab" and had never met a stranger. He could strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. The conversations and laughs will be missed by many.

Larry's last 6 years were spent with his devoted friend and companion, Jean Appleman. They could be found working on house or yard projects or just sitting on the porch swing with a glass of wine.

Larry is survived by his daughters Wendy Dougan and Amy (Tim) Stockdale and grandchildren Connor, Carson, and Allie Stockdale and Caleb Dougan.

Services will be on Saturday June 6th with a visitation from 10am to 11am and a short service to begin at 11am at Price Funeral Home. Military honors and burial will be held at Prairie Home cemetery in Graham, MO following the service.

Larry was a huge supporter of Veterans and Wreaths Across America was near and dear to his heart. In lieu of flowers the family would encourage a donation to wreathsacrossamerica.org or the local chapter who raises funds to place nearly 250 wreaths throughout the local NW Missouri cemeteries: the Elms/Sipes Project for Wreaths Across America: Venmo @David-Elms-4
