Obituary

Helen Irene Fare, 102, of Ravenwood, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at Mosaic Medical Center in Maryville, Missouri.

Helen was born on June 3, 1922 in Oxford, Missouri to Elmer C. and Della M. (Dukes) Herndon. Following the death of her father when Helen was just 3 weeks old, the family moved to Parnell where she graduated from Parnell High School in 1940 and then worked in the high school library.

She married John Harold Fare on March 8, 1942 in Maryville, Missouri. Helen was a homemaker and expert pie maker and enjoyed gardening, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and hosting large family gatherings for nearly every holiday.

Harold preceded her in death on July 6, 2006. She was also preceded by her parents, three sisters, Ethel Smith, Lucille Simpson and LaVerla Hammond, brother, Harley Herndon, infant brother, Clark Herndon, granddaughter, Melanie DeFreece, grandson, Ryan Orey, great-great-grandson, Issac Wagner, and sons-in-law, Dean Hawk and Fred Orey.

Survivors include her three daughters, Connie Sue Hawk, Patsy Lynn Orey and Kathy Diane (Charley) Brand; four grandchildren, Lisa (Harold) Lyle, Angelia Bever, Shawn (Lacey) DeFreece, and Brandon (Natasha) Brand; twelve great-grandchildren, Stephanie Meyer, Jennifer (Wes) Schopfer, Justin Bever, Aaron (Zara) Bever, Sydni (Josh) Kurtz, Dylan (Abbi) DeFreece, Bobbi Jepsen, Jadin DeFreece, Hadley DeFreece, Ashton Brand, Lana Brand, and Victoria Brand; two step-great-grandchildren, Chance Barber and Dylan Mildfeldt; fourteen great-great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great-grandson, one great-great-great-granddaughter; nephew, LeRoy (Janet) Hammond, and niece, Raylene (Gary) Kerwin, cousin, Winnie Burns.

The family also wishes to express thanks to her caregivers, Dawn Graham, and Terri Hudson.

Services 11am Wednesday, November 6th at Laura Street Baptist Church under the direction of Price Funeral Home. Burial Oak Lawn Cemetery in Ravenwood, Missouri. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family suggests memorials to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Oak Lawn Cemetery.
