Fr. Joel Derks, OSB, 80 of Conception, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at St. Stephen's Infirmary at Conception Abbey.

Fr. Joel was born on July 23, 1937 to Lawrence and Gertrude (Walter) Derks.

He was a graduate of Conception Seminary College and Professed as a Roman Catholic Monk since September 12, 1958 and Ordained as a Catholic Priest, September 21, 1963. He served as a Parish Priest, Chaplain and Almoner.

Fr. Joel was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Bea Brillheart and Dolly Ciemiega, four brothers, Martin, John, Cletus and Wilfred "Ted" Derks.

Survivors include his Monastic Community; three brothers, Alfred Derks, Great Falls, Montana, Irvin Derks, Valier, Montana, Chris Derks, Lake Havasu, Arizona; four sisters, Rita Wallace, Mesa, Arizona, Mary Ann Meyer, Stanberry, Misouri, Diane Wilmes, Strasburg, Colorado, Tina Wendle, Ravenwood, Missouri and sister-in-law, Marilyn Derks, Maryville, Missouri.

Visitation 5:30pm Monday, January 1, 2018 with Vespers of the Dead at 7:15pm at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Conception, Missouri.

Mass of Christian Burial 11:30am Tuesday, Janaury 2, 2018 at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Conception, Missouri. Burial St. Columba Cemetery, Conception, Missouri.
