Obituary

Edward Mel Allen, 71 years of age passed away at his home in Atlanta, Georgia on January 2, 2025. Edward was a native of Conception Jct., Missouri. He was a 1971 graduate of Maur Hill Prep High School, Atchison, Kansas and a 1975 graduate of Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. He received an MBA at Avila University, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Edward was the founder and President of Sweet Eddie's Inc. and was known for his dedicated hard work in developing the business. Sweet Eddie's is an SQF-certified wholesale bakery specializing in producing high quality cinnamon rolls and other yeast-raised sweet goods for top retail chains across the United States, such as Aldi's and Chick-Fil-A. Sweet Eddie's is based in Atlanta, GA and has been serving its customers since 1998. Edward was devoted to his employees and helped many of them. Sweetmore Bakeries completed an acquisition of Sweet Eddie's Inc., in 2024.

Edward is survived by many lifelong friends from all facets of his life. He was a friend to everyone he met and a role model for many. His life was rooted in his childhood by his Catholic faith, family, friends and his Irish Heritage. The Allen family were Irish settlers in the 1860's of Conception Jct. Missouri and engaged in farming. Edward's passion was golfing. He belonged to the Pinetree Country Club, in Kennesaw, Georgia, Prairies Dunes Country Club, in Hutchinson, Kansas, and was an international member of the Ardglass Golf Club, in County Down, Northern Ireland. He was full of fun and the organizer of many social events and golfing trips.  He also, was involved in many golfing charity events and served on the alumni boards of Maur Hill Prep and Rockhurst College. Edward was always on the go socializing and working and was described as a "doer". He was a good man who helped all; his family, friends and employees. He will always be remembered and live in their hearts forever.

Edward is survived by his sister Geraldine Patrice Turner and brother-in-law, Robert Turner of Tulsa, Oklahoma and his sister Eddie Marie Tuttle and brother-in-law, Glenn Tuttle of Punta Gorda, Florida. Uncle Mel is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews. They are Genevieve "Jenni" Abbott, husband Preston Abbott, Pat Turner and Brittney Federko, Mike Turner, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma. In addition, he is survived by his beloved great nephews, Winston Abbott, Briggs Allen Turner and Nolan Federko.  Edward was predeceased by his parents, Edward C. Allen and mother Geraldine Genevieve Dunn Allen of Conception Jct., Missouri.

Funeral arrangements have been made with Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri. The funeral mass will be on January 17, 2025 at 9:30 AM in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception at Conception Abbey, Conception, Missouri. Edward will be laid to rest at St. Colomba Cemetery, Conception, Missouri.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Conception Abbey, 37174 State Hwy. VV, Conception, MO 64433.
