Doris Geraldine Coleman, age 97, of Maryville, MO formerly of Hopkins, MO died October 26, 2016 at Parkdale Manor Care Center in Maryville.
Doris was born at home in Taylor County, IA, March 2, 1919, to Albert Francis ("Frank") Cubbage and Anna Risser Cubbage. Doris had fond memoris of living within the "Risser Mile" where her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins lived and spent many happy hours together. She was united in marriage to Robert Lynn Coleman on May 17, 1941 in Albany, MO.
She was a 1936 graduate of Bedford, IA High School and attended Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College. She had been a country school teacher in rural Iowa, including Forest Grove, Science Ridge, Siam and Valley, all country schools. Doris had a fond memory of a former student inviting her to his 80th birthday party, she went and had a wonderful time reminiscing. After Doris gave up her career as a teacher she spent time as a Teacher's Aide and then went on to cook at North Nodaway High School.
Doris belonged to the Hopkins First Christian Church, SOS Extension Club, Unity Friendship Club. She loved to sketch and paint along with working outside with her garden and flowers. Being outside working in the soil and observing nature was something that brought peace and joy to her. Crossword puzzles were a daily habit up until about a month before she passed away. Doris used to make her own patterns and sew clothes for Kay Ann and also doll clothes.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert (November 30, 1977) son, Jack Lynn Coleman, and infant sister, Deloris Jean Cubbage.
Doris is survived by her son, Robert "Allen" Coleman and wife Elizabeth, Hopkins and daughter, Kay Ann Coleman, Maryville; four grandchildren: Scott and wife Christobel, Robert and wife Joy, Keith and wife Angela, and Paul Coleman; seven great grandchildren: Erika, Ethan, Anthony, Sierra, Caitlin, Alexandra, and Jacquelyn; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ron and Betty Hardee; sister-in-law, Vivian Coleman along with several nieces and nephews.
Open visitation is after 1:00 PM Friday. Price Funeral Home, Maryville
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, October 31st at Hopkins Christian Church. Burial will follow at Hopkins Cemetery.
