Darlene Mann Nelson, 99, of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Parkdale Manor.

Darlene was born on September 10, 1924 in Barnard, Missouri to Harry R. and Anna M. (Fuller) Schmitt.

She was a 1942 graduate of Barnard High School. Darlene was a homemaker. She loved high school softball and volleyball. In later life she enjoyed golf and was a member of the Maryville Women's Bowling Association for over 50 years. She was a member of the Maryville Women's Hall of Fame, and won the National Women's Tournament in Tucson, Arizona in 1995.

She married Lester E. Mann, a member of the United States Air Force, later reported missing in action in World War II, while serving in the ETO.

She later married Virgil Nelson on May 1, 1946 in Troy, Kansas. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Sharon Drake, grandson, Noah Hasty Nelson, two brothers, Harry L. Schmitt and C. Afton Schmitt, sister, Verlene Kelly.

Survivors include her son, Kim (Tonya) Nelson; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Nelson has been cremated under the care of Price Funeral Home. Per Darlene's wishes there will be no visitation. A private family service will be held at the Barnard Masonic Cemetery.
