Clifton Joseph "Joe" Mattson, 89, died on July 13, 2016, at his home in rural Conception Junction, Missouri.
Joseph was born on November 25, 1926, in Clyde, Missouri to Clifton M and Mary H Schieber Mattson.
Joe served his country in the United States Army. In 1945-1946 he was stationed at Fort Ord, California and 1951-1953 at Fort Richardson, Anchorage, Alaska.
He married Marian Zirfas on October 20, 1956 in Conception, Missouri. Joe was a farmer by trade. His greatest pride was in his family. He loved spending time with them and the many hours of playing cards.
Joe was recently recognized as the longest living active member of the Tri-C American Legion Post #464, with 70 years of service. He was also a member of St Columba Parish and the Knights of Columbus in Conception Junction.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers: infant, Leo and Norbert Mattson; sisters: Mary Mildred Huber Fessler and Sr. Mathilda Mattson OSB.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Marian; sons: Bernard, Lawrence (Connie), Francis (Linda), and Gary (Stacey) Mattson, all of Conception Junction; James (Sue) Mattson, Maryville; daughters: Marilyn (Gary) Wood, Maysville; Erma Mattson, Columbia and Joan (Jeff) Farnan, Stanberry; 20 grandchildren: Cory and Molly Wood; Asia McClellan; Todd; Renae (Jason Luke); Craig (Sierra), Madelynn and Alex Mattson; Kevin, Jayme (Clinton Brady); and Colton Mattson; Clinton (Sydney), Kellan, Kyler, Caden and Chase Farnan; Emily, Ashley, Aubrey and Andy Mattson; One Great-Grandson: Taven Mattson; a brother: Charles(Velda) Mattson, Conception Junction; sisters: Mathilda (Leo) Perkins and Agatha Malson, Kansas City, Missouri; Margaret (Paul) Stiens and Lois Gockel, Maryville, sister-in-law Carolyn Mattson, Stanberry, and many nieces and nephews.
A Family Rosary will be held 4:00 pm, Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri.
A Parish Rosary is 5:00 pm Sunday, July 17, 2016 at St Columba Catholic Church, Conception Junction with Visitation following from 5:30 - 8 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 am, Monday, July 18, 2016 at St. Columba Catholic Church, Conception Junction with burial following in St. Columba Cemetery, Conception, Missouri.
Memorials may be made to: SSM Hospice, Maryville; Conception Abbey; St Columba Parish and/or the Tri-C American Legion Post 464 in Joe's name.
