Betty Jane Baker, 96, of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at her home.
Betty was born on March 30, 1929 in Sweet Springs, Missouri to William H. and Ruby E. (Williamson) Underwood. She graduated from High School in Marshall, Missouri in 1947 and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education followed by her Masters Degree in Education both from Northwest Missouri State University. She was a Physical Education Teacher at Eugene Field Elementary until her retirement.
Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of Maryville, Levi & Lace Square Dance Club. She enjoyed playing bridge, camping, fishing and her garden. She was a volunteer for Road to Recovery, Meals on Wheels, St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary and a food sample demonstrator at Hy-Vee. She was also an avid Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs and Northwest Bearcat Fan.
She married Earl Henry Baker on December 21, 1947. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1999. She was also preceded by her parents, son, Richard Baker, two brothers, William Underwood and Russell Underwood, two sisters, infant sister, Wilma Jean Underwood and Vivian Templeton and two grandchildren, Angela and Charles Haynes.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Davis, Maryville, Missouri and Patricia Haynes, O'Fallon, Missouri; son, Earl Baker; sister, Donna Welch, San Diego, California; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Tony) Badalucco, Omaha, Nebraska, Stephen (Nicole Ursch) Haynes, Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, Jonathan Baker, Jersey City, New Jersey and Andrew Baker, Castleton-on-Hudson, New York and four great-grandchildren, Russell Haynes, Emmitt Haynes, Barrett Badalucco and Koen Badalucco.
Services 1pm Saturday, May 10th at the First Baptist Church of Maryville under the care of Price Funeral Home. Burial Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville, Missouri. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family suggests memorials to the Earl H. Baker Scholarship at Northwest Foundation or the First Baptist Church of Maryville.
