Ann Harris Gibson

Ann Harris Gibson, of Maryville, Missouri passed away on Thursday September 3rd at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 16, 1940, in Maryville, Missouri to Anderson W. Harris, Jr. and Emma R. (Welch) Harris.

She graduated from Omaha North High School and received her Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from Northwest Missouri State University. She was a homemaker and member of the First Christian Church of Maryville, PEO Chapter L., AAUW, Reading Group, the Sewing Club and the Nodaway County Historical Society.

(Ann was a patriot who came from a line of military servicemen. She loved her country and was dedicated to supporting men of valor and service to her country. She expressed her gratitude for her personal freedom by contributing to the veterans association.

Ann had a deep and personal commitment to Jesus and was devoted to serving and supporting the First Christian Church for many years. She was often seen outside of regular service times cooking for church events, volunteering for vacation bible school, or Christmas services and the like. Her Sunday School group became so close they often took family vacations together and stayed at Lake of the Ozarks. After their children were grown, they continued their love of travel together which took her to such far away places as China and South Africa as well as many beautiful spots within her beloved home country.

Ann enjoyed playing bridge and often, when playing couples bridge, she and her partner would “trounce the men”.

She was an incredible cook with an undisputable passion for ice cream, who loved to entertain, and would often open her home to friends and family.

Knitting and needle point helped her pass the long winter evenings resulting in beautiful creations gifted to friends and family.

She loved sitting on the porch with her husband Mel sipping coffee on cool mornings and was frequently seen riding in the Kubota on her family farm with her husband and their dog Millie.

Above all, Ann held two things most dear to her heart, Jesus her Savior and the loving bonds of family.

Ann married Melvin L. Gibson on October 3, 1958, in Maryville, Missouri. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include their children, Tracy (Doug) Tipton and Karen (Fernando) Heredia and brother-in-law Mike (Marsha) Gibson; six grandchildren, Lauren (Nathan) Brannon, Jonathan (Raven) Sheil, Alyssa Tipton, Brandon Heredia, Brianna (Ben) Heredia Moran and Bradley (Kennedy) Heredia; two great-grandchildren, Rhett Brannon and Ridge Sheil.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Anderson (Sandy) Woods Harris III.

Per Ann’s wishes, a Private Family Graveside Service will be held under the care of Price Funeral Home at Oak Hill Cemetery in Maryville. Ann’s family will not be present for visitation, friends may pay their respect from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Friday, September 4th at the funeral home.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Ann’s home from 2:00-5:00 pm Saturday September 5, 2026.
