Abbot Robert Schoofs, O.S.B.

Abbot Robert Schoofs, O.S.B., 94, of Conception, Missouri passed away on Saturday, January 6,

2024 at St. Stephen's Infirmary at Conception Abbey, Conception, Missouri.

Abbot Robert (Robert Carl) was born on March 16, 1929 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late

Louis and Irene (nee Schmitz) Schoofs.

He professed as a monk of St. Benedict Abbey, Benet Lake, Wisconsin on September 3, 1949

and was ordained May 31, 1958. He had various assignments, and ultimately he served as Abbot of St. Benedict's from 1976 to 1992. He moved to Conception Abbey in 2016, where he resided in the Abbey's Infirmary.

Vespers of the Faithful Departed will be prayed on Tuesday, January 9 at 7:15 pm at The

Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Conception, Missouri. A Mass of Christian Burial will

be celebrated at 11:45 am Wednesday, January 10 at The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

Abbot Robert's mortal remains will be returned to St. Benedict Abbey, Benet Lake, Wisconsin

where a second Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning, January 12 with

burial following at St. Benedict Abbey Cemetery, Benet Lake, Wisconsin.
