A. Joan Schmitz, 95, of Maryville, Missouri, formerly of Parnell, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Mosaic Medical Center in Maryville.
Joan was born on June 9, 1931, in Parnell, Missouri to Donald and Vesta (Killam) Stutesman. She was a 1949 graduate of Parnell High School and was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parnell and was a contributor to the Nodaway News Leader.
She married Norbert B. Schmitz on May 20, 1950, in Parnell, Missouri. He preceded her in death on November 30, 2023. She was also preceded by her parents, two sisters, Erma (Francis) Berg and Donna (Charles) Auffert; great-grandsons, Ethan Hunter and Hunter Zink.
She is survived by her children, Gerre (Cliff) Nelles, Excelsior Springs, Missouri, Nancy (Steve) Archer, Conception Jct., Missouri, Julie (Richard) Hunter, Harrisonville, Missouri, Michael (Paulette) Schmitz, Sparta, Illinois, Patrick (Mary Frances) Schmitz, Maryville, Missouri and Kelly (Martha) Schmitz, Maryville, Missouri; grandchildren, Jodie (Jeremy) Smith, Kerre (Stephan) Fiebich, Stacey (John) Pfannenstiel, Brian Archer, Kellen Archer, Katharine Archer, Brad Archer, Ryan Schmitz, Josh Schmitz, Holly (Matt) Conley, David Schmitz, Colin Schmitz, Jessica Hunter, Nate (Anastasia) Hunter, Jake (Elizabeth) Hunter, Ben (Erin) Hunter, Joe Hunter, Melissa (Marco) Schmitz-DeMora, Heather Wright, Andrew Schmitz; Twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial 10:30am Thursday, July 9th at St. Joseph Catholic Church under the care of Price Funeral Home. Burial St. Joseph Cemetery in Parnell, Missouri.
Rosary 6:00pm Wednesday, July 8th at St. Joseph Catholic. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8pm. In memory of Joan, her family suggests memorials be made in care of St. Joseph Cemetery Association or Rose Hill Cemetery Association.
