Altha Birkenholz Bird

Altha Bird passed February 25, 2019 with the family at her side. She was 100 years and 4 months old.

Altha Birkenholz Bird was born October 22nd, 1918, to Elmer and Della (Wilson) Birkenholz. She was the granddaughter of William and Altha (Crenshaw) Birkenholz. She married Martin H. Bird on June 11, 1937. She had two sons, Richard Lee Bird, who passed in 1959, and Roger Wayne Bird.

She is the grandmother of Roger's sons, Richard Bird and Lee Bird, great-grandmother to Taylor Bird, daughter of Richard, and Mackenzie Bird and Bryce Schafer, daughter and step-son of Lee.

Altha was the fourth of nine children, Golda Cordell, Helen Shades, Mildred Boyles, William Birkenholz, Joseph Birkenholz, Vilas (John) Birkenholz and Viron Birkenholz, all deceased.

She was a homemaker and loving wife to Martin and mother to her sons Richard and Roger. She spent much time with her grandsons Richard and Lee. Altha is survived by son Roger (Sharon) Bird, Maryville, grandsons Richard (Diane) Bird, Maryville and Lee (Jessie) Bird, Topeka, KS, great-grandchildren, and sister Marion Nicholson and family.

The Bird family wishes to thank Parkdale Manor and their wonderful and caring staff, who gave loving care to Altha and to SSM Hospice who provided much comfort in the final days of Altha's life.

Visitation: 6:00-7:00 PM Wednesday February 27, 2019, Price Funeral Home, Maryville.

Service: 2:00 PM Thursday, February 28th, also at Price's with burial following at Miriam Cemetery, Maryville.

Condolences to family. Enjoyed sleep overs with Richard when we were young. Played basketball with rolled up socks in her home and she was very patient with us. Richard was a very good friend. TILLIE PORTERFIELD
