Marie Emma (Auffert) Gallagher, 96, Maryville, Missouri, (formerly of Burlington Junction, Missouri), died Tuesday, November 16, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

She was born east of Maryville to Fred Joseph and Mary Elizabeth (Wilmes) Auffert on March 30, 1914. She attended St Mary’s School . She worked at St Francis Hospital in Maryville before marrying Francis Edward Gallagher on April 19, 1938, in Maryville.

Marie and Francis spent their married life farming in the Nodaway County area, living many years near Burlington Junction where Marie was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Club and an active member of St Benedict’s Catholic Church. As a lifelong Catholic, active involvement in her church was an important part of her life.  

She loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a superb cook, who could present a delectable meal with grace and elegance.

Marie and Francis retired from farming in 1989 and moved back to Maryville. Francis preceded her in death on October 5, 1996. While living in Maryville, Marie was a member of St Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Community and St Gregory’s Guild.

Marie was also preceded in death by her parents; one sister: Kay Pfeifer Taylor and three brothers: an infant, Sylvester Auffert, Fred Auffert and Richard Auffert.

Survivors include one son : Don (Ellen) Gallagher, Maryville; one daughter Gerry Ann (Ron) Siever, Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one sister: Evelyn Peterson, Maryville; three sisters-in-law: Shirley Auffert, Isabelle Auffert and Mary Gallagher, all of Maryville and numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation is 6-7 pm Friday, November 19, 2010 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville, with a Family and Parish Prayer Service at 7 pm.                                                                                                                               

Mass of Christian Burial is 9:30 am Saturday, November 20, 2010 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, with burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Maryville, Missouri
