Richard Morehouse, 71, Hopkins, Missouri died Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Heartland Regional Medical Center, St Joseph, Missouri.

He was born December 15, 1938 in rural Hopkins, Missouri, the son of Faye and Bessie Belle (Broyles) Morehouse. A graduate of Hopkins High School, Richard attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville.

He married Phyllis Flowers, October 10, 1958 in Hopkins, Missouri.

Richard had done heavy construction work and he owned and operated Morehouse Trucking many years, retiring in 2005.

He was a member of the Hopkins Christian Church, the Xenia Masonic Lodge, Hopkins and he was a Charter Member of the Eagles’ Lodge, Maryville. Richard served as Mayor of Hopkins several years and was on the City Council many more. He loved helping his community.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Ronald, his twin and Jackie Dean Morehouse; his sisters: Marjorie Walston and Leota Anderson.

Survivors include his wife: Phyllis Morehouse, of their home in Hopkins, son: Rick (Julie) Morehouse, Plano, Texas and grandson: Tucker, who is a freshman at LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; son: Brett (Melody) Morehouse, Weatherby Lake, Missouri and grandsons: Connor and Peyton; a brother: Gene (Doris) Morehouse, Berthoud, Colorado; a sister: Carole Oberhauser, Hopkins; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation is 5-6 pm Sunday, August 29, 2010 at the Swanson-Price Chapel, Hopkins.

Funeral Services are 10 am Monday, August 30 th at the Hopkins Christian Church with burial in Hopkins Cemetery, Hopkins, Missouri.

Memorials may be given to the Nodaway County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, c/o Teri Harr, 2016 South Main, Maryville, Missouri.
