Darren Eugene Derks, 44, Kansas City, Missouri, died Saturday, July 17, 2010, as the result of an automobile accident. Darren was born January 1, 1966, in Maryville, Missouri to Ted and Marylin Derks. A 1984 graduate of Maryville High School, he was a Self-employed Contractor in Kansas City and formerly worked for Derron Cherry Budweiser Distribution Company in Kansas City, Missouri. He married Melody Ann Shockey on October 24, 1992 , at the Immanuel Baptist Church, Kansas City, Kansas. An avid golfer, Darren was a member of the Liberty Hills Country Club, Liberty, Missouri and a past member of Staley Farms Golf Course, Kansas City, Missouri. Darren was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Lawrence and Gertrude Derks; maternal grandfather Elby Surplus; father-in-law William (Bill) Shockey. Survivors include his wife Melody Derks, daughter Madison Marie Derks, both of the home in Kansas City; parents Ted and Marylin Derks; sister Darla Black, all of Maryville; maternal grandmother Maxine Surplus, Maryville and mother-in-law Nora Marie Shockey, Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation is 6:00-8:00 PM, Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 22, at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery, Maryville. Memorials may be made to the Madison Marie Derks Memorial Scholarship for educational purposes, c/o Madison's mother.
