A funeral mass for Lawrence Vincent Barmann, 94, Lawrence, will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 7 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Maryville, Missouri. Burial with military honors will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Maryville. Mr. Barmann died Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Brandon Woods Retirement Community, Lawrence, Kansas. He was born January 22, 1913 in Maryville, Missouri, the son of Charles Augustus and Catherine Parle Barmann. He attended grade school his first years at Jones Branch (near Arkoe), and then St. Mary's in Maryville. He graduated from Maur Hill High School in Atchison, Kansas in 1931. Mr. Barmann served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He entered in 1942, completing his basic training at Fort Walters in Mineral Wells, Texas. He graduated from officer training school at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. In early 1944, he sailed to Europe on the Queen Mary from New York and served in England, France and the Philippines as a captain in the 755th Engineers Company until his honorable discharge in 1946. After the war, he resumed farming near Maryville. Mr. Barmann married Margaret Marie Lawrence on October 27, 1949 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Kansas City, Kansas. He was a member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Maryville. Over the years, he was active with his parish and community activities, including serving on the boards at St. Gregory's parish and Mount Alverno School, and volunteering with 4-H. After retiring, he also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and traveling, including reunions with his Army Company and trips to Europe. He moved to Lawrence, Kansas in 2000, and became a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, of Lawrence, Kansas; three daughters, Ann Edwards and her husband Robert, Leawood, Kansas; Kathy Robbins and her husband Mark, Lawrence, Kansas; Sue Buchanan and her husband Richard, Charleston, South Carolina; one son Larry Barmann and his wife Kathy, Red Oak, Iowa; grandchildren U. S. Army Specialist Matthew Edwards, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Susanna Edwards, Blue Springs, Missouri, Christina Rauba, The Woodlands, Texas, Mark Barmann, Omaha, Nebraska, Angela Britten, Glenwood, Iowa, Stephen Robbins, Lawrence, Kansas, Neal, Andrew and Hallie Buchanan, Charleston, South Carolina; great-grandchildren Jordan and Malia Baker, Lauren Rauba, Jasmine Barmann, Conor Britten; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Paul, George and Charles. The family will receive friends at St. Gregory's Church from 6:00 to 7:00 p. m. Sunday, January 6, and a prayer service will follow at 7:00 p. m. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 7 at St. Gregory Barbarigo Church, Maryville, Missouri, followed by internment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Maryville. Located approximately 45 minutes North of St. Joseph, Missouri, via Interstate 29 North to US 71 North (Exit 56A), Price Funeral Home is located at the corner of First and Market in Maryville, Missouri.

Coming from the South: Stay on US 71 North (1st stop light) to the intersection of MO 46 & US 71/136 Highways (2nd Stop Light). At the light turn left onto MO 46 West, continue going straight West 14 blocks. Turn left on Market, and the funeral home parking lots (upper and lower levels) are to the left.

Coming from the North: Stay on US 71/136 South (1st stop light) to the intersection of MO 46/US136. Merge right onto MO 46 West, continue straight on First Street traveling 14 blocks to Market (turn left), and the parking lots are on the east side of Market Street.

Coming from the East: Stay on MO46/US136 West (1st stop light), continue straight on First Street to the intersection of Market Street. Turn left and the parking lots are on the left.

Coming from the West: Stay on MO46 East (First Street), continue on through 1st stop light (First and Main), go one block East, turn right on Market, and parking is on the left.
